Important to apply for the Auxiliary Grant, state residents must be living in an assisted living facility or adult foster care home at the time of application. Also important, approval for the grant does not mean immediate assistance. Approved candidates commonly have to wait for a "bed" to become available in a certified residence.
VA may also be able to provide a health professional (e.g., a nurse) to come to the Adult Family Home and give the Veteran extra care. The VA does not pay for the Veteran's rent, which usually includes basic services. However, the VA may pay for some of the extra services, such as nurse visits, that a Veteran may need in an Adult Family Home.

Funding is provisional and dependent on passage of a federal budget and approval of the Virginia Combined State Plan for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
